Description
PHILIPS LED Highbay BY175P G2 Series 80W-250W
The upgraded second-generation BY175P high bay: full-metal construction, a centre cable outlet and a Signify driver inside. Ten ordering codes from 80 W to 250 W for warehouses, workshops and exhibition halls.
Philips BY175P G2 LED high bay, upgraded for 45°C plants
The BY175P G2 is the economy tier of the Philips LED high bay range. It sits below the BY778P G2 GreenPerform Elite on efficacy - 100 to 125 lm/W here against 130 to 150 lm/W there - and alongside the round BY518P SE GreenUp for projects that specify a different body shape. It is the entry point for buyers who size a project by wattage: 80 W to 250 W across three housing sizes.
This generation adds 80 W and 250 W models, re-codes the 100 W, 150 W and 200 W luminaires and lifts the ambient limit to 45°C for the whole family. Every model shares a 100° wide beam, 4000 K or 6500 K at CRI 80, a class I 220-240 V platform and a Signify independent driver with its own housing. Luminous flux runs from 8,400 lm at 80 W to 31,250 lm at 250 W.
Luminaire safety requirements for this class of product are defined by IEC 60598-1, and the family is CCC and EMC certified. For the wider Philips portfolio see Philips Lighting.
Feature highlights
What changed in the second generation, and why it matters on site
All-metal body, 45°C ambient
Coated steel gear box and a spun-aluminium reflector. The reflector carries a new metallic-effect coating that improves heat dissipation, so the family is rated for ambient temperatures up to 45°C and passed a 48-hour salt-spray test.
Centre cable outlet
A silicone rubber cable of at least 0.2 m leaves through the centre and runs up inside the mounting sleeve - no side loop to snag on a lift or a rack beam.
Five wattages, three housings
80 W and 100 W share the 330 mm body, 150 W uses 370 mm, and 200 W and 250 W share the 400 mm body - so a 250 W swap needs no new fixing points or ceiling cut-out.
Signify driver inside
An independent Signify driver in its own housing: power factor 0.95, 2 kV / 3 kV surge protection, class I, and no visible flicker with ripple at or below 20% at one metre.
What is new in the upgraded version
Five differences from the first-generation BY175P
- New 80 W and 250 W models. The range now runs 80 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 W, with 31,250 lm at the top end.
- New 12NCs for 100 W, 150 W and 200 W. Existing project documentation that quotes the old codes needs updating before ordering.
- Ambient limit raised to 45°C across the range. The spun-aluminium reflector got a new professional coating that improves heat dissipation.
- 250 W uses a polycarbonate lens. The LEDs are visible through it, cooling improves, and the 250 W shares its housing and dimensions with the 200 W.
- Metallic-effect reflector finish. Same look as the previous anodised version, better thermal behaviour underneath.
Where the BY175P G2 fits
Indoor, dry and convective - choose the wattage from the mounting height, not the floor area
Warehouses and distribution centres
Ceilings of 6-15 m, racking aisles and loading bays. 100 W covers a 7 x 7 m grid at 150 lx; 200 W stretches that to 10 x 10 m. The 100° beam keeps light on the rack face instead of the roof structure.
Factories, workshops and plant rooms
Assembly halls and machine shops where the roof space runs hot. The 45°C ambient rating and the metal gear box keep the driver inside its thermal envelope, and the centre outlet stays clear of cranes and conveyors.
Exhibition halls and sports halls
Open roof structures above 10 m. On a 12-15 m ceiling the 200 W model holds 300 lx on a 5.5 x 5.5 m grid, and 6500 K is available where a cooler white is specified.
Quick lighting layout
Luminaire spacing for a 100 W and a 200 W BY175P G2, by ceiling height and work-plane target
| Ceiling height | Work-plane illuminance | BY175P G2 100W spacing | BY175P G2 200W spacing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6-9 m | 150 lx | 7.0 x 7.0 m | 10.0 x 10.0 m |
| 6-9 m | 300 lx | 5.0 x 5.0 m | 7.0 x 7.0 m |
| 9-12 m | 150 lx | 6.0 x 6.0 m | 9.0 x 9.0 m |
| 9-12 m | 300 lx | — | 6.0 x 6.0 m |
| 12-15 m | 150 lx | 5.5 x 5.5 m | 8.0 x 8.0 m |
| 12-15 m | 300 lx | — | 5.5 x 5.5 m |
Reading the table: at 7.0 x 7.0 m, space the luminaires 7 m apart in both directions and allow one luminaire per 49-50 m² to work out the total quantity and a first budget. This table is a rule-of-thumb only - it cannot replace DIALux or the IES photometric file, which also give you uniformity and LPD. Ask us for the IES/LDT file for the exact code you are specifying.
Installation and mounting
Two options from the same centre outlet - hook suspension as standard, rigid rod on request
Hook suspension
- Integral hook supplied with every luminaire - no separate accessory code
- Suitable for chain, wire or direct hook suspension from purlins
- Cable exits through the centre and is concealed inside the mounting sleeve
- Minimum cable length 0.2 m, silicone rubber, class I earth conductor included
Rigid rod (G1/2)
- G1/2 half-inch cylindrical pipe thread in the centre of the gear box
- 25 mm diameter rod, tightened to 4-5 N·m
- The lifting rod is not included; order it with the luminaire if the ceiling needs it
- Keeps the luminaire perfectly vertical above aisles and conveyor lines
Both options assume an indoor, dry location: IP20 / IK03, ambient -20°C to +45°C, class I with protective earth. Keep the ventilation slots of the gear box clear of insulation and leave room above the reflector for convection - that is what allows the 250 W model to share the 200 W housing. For mounting heights above 15 m, or where dust and moisture are present, step up to the BY778P G2 or a sealed IP65 body.
